It Begins with an Integrative Medicine and Holistic Foundation:
It is my core belief that an "Integrative Medicine" approach towards one's self-care maximizes our potential for optimum health. Utilizing Integrative Medicine, we have the benefit of both conventional medicine and Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) therapies to take advantage of the knowledge, wisdom and understanding of both to address our well-being holistically.
"Integrative Medicine is healing-oriented medicine that takes into account the whole person (body, mind and spirit) including all aspects of Lifestyle. It emphasizes the therapeutic relationship and makes use of all therapies, both conventional and alternative." Dr. Andrew Weil
The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine of the National Institute of Health says: "Integrative Medicine refers to a practice that combines both Conventional and Complementary and Alternative Medicine Treatments for which there is evidence of safety and effectiveness."
Energy Healing is a form of Energy Medicine, a Complementary and Alternative Medicine Therapy. "We are putting the Soul back into Medicine" says Dr. Debra Green, speaking of Energy Medicine and CAM Therapies. In CAM therapies, practitioners differentiate between healing and curing. In conventional medicine, the aim is to cure, meaning to bring about the recovery from a disease with focus on the physical body. In healing, all aspects of the person are considered: the physical, the emotional, the mental and the spiritual. This distinction is important as healing is independent of illness, cure of disease or even death. It is possible to be healthy and healed, without being cured. The intention of CAM therapies is to bring the person to the highest functional level possible, evolving towards an increased sense of well-being. In conventional medicine, it is usually a skilled specialist who directs the curing protocol. In the holistic healing model, a practitioner works in open-ended partnership with the client and mutually develops treatment plans and desired outcomes focusing not only on the physical, but also the emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of self, dovetailing and supporting the conventional treatment.
